Atlético Ottawa beat York FC in season opener

The 2024 Canadian Premier League season kicked off at TD Place on Saturday, as Atlético Ottawa opened up a new campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over York United.

After a goal less first half York drew first blood 3 minutes after the restart when Austin Ricci punished a poor clearance from keeper Nathan Ingham.

Atlético responded well to the setback and eventually their pressure paid off when Manuel Aparicio headed in from inside the goal area.

12 minutes later Atletico were in front when Kris Twardek scored with a fine finish. Twardek, who played for Ottawa South United as a youth player was playing his first professional game in Canada.

Atlético Ottawa are home again next Saturday when they take on Calgary FC at TD Place. Kick off is at 2:00pm.
